Industrial Controls Technician

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Industrial Controls Technician to support the installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and optimization of industrial automation and control systems within a manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for ensuring maximum equipment uptime through effective troubleshooting of PLCs, HMIs, robotics, drives, sensors, and electrical control systems.

The ideal candidate will possess strong electrical and automation troubleshooting skills, experience with PLC programming and diagnostics, and a passion for continuous improvement in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair industrial automation equipment, electrical systems, and production machinery.
  • Diagnose issues involving PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, sensors, and industrial networks.
  • Perform modifications to PLC and HMI programs as needed to improve equipment performance and reliability.
  • Support commissioning, startup, and installation of new manufacturing equipment and automation systems.
  • Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, ladder logic, and technical documentation.
  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance activities on automated production equipment.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance, Engineering, Production, and Quality teams to resolve equipment issues.
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, and uptime.
  • Troubleshoot communication networks including Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, Profinet, and other industrial protocols.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation within CMMS systems.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, lockout/tagout procedures, and company policies.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, Industrial Automation, Robotics, or related field preferred.

  • 3+ years of experience troubleshooting industrial automation equipment in a manufacturing environment.

  • Strong PLC troubleshooting experience.

  • Experience with one or more of the following platforms:- Allen-Bradley / Rockwell

    • Siemens
    • Omron
    • Mitsubishi
  • Experience troubleshooting HMIs and operator interfaces.

  • Working knowledge of AC/DC electrical systems up to 480V.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and ladder logic diagrams.

  • Experience with industrial sensors, motors, drives, and control panels.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Robotics experience including troubleshooting and programming.

  • Experience with:- FANUC Robotics

    • ABB Robotics
    • Yaskawa Motoman
    • KUKA Robotics
  • Servo motor and motion control experience.

  • Vision systems experience.

  • Industrial networking experience.

  • Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement experience.
