You’ll arrive on the plant floor and jump straight into the flow of production—observing takt times, coaching teams on standardized work, and partnering with Production leaders to remove waste from every step. As a Lean-focused Industrial Engineer, your craft is turning complexity into clarity: balancing lines, de-bottlenecking processes, and translating time studies into safer, faster, higher-quality operations.
Onsite, full-time presence in Tonawanda is required. This position may be eligible for relocation benefits.
Your day might look like this:
- Walk the line with area leadership to validate standardized work and uncover barriers to flow.
- Use motion analysis and established time data to keep studies accurate and current.
- Refine routings so every part reaches its assembly point efficiently and reliably.
- Update workstation layouts with CAD tools (AutoCAD/SolidWorks/Line Designer) to enhance ergonomics, quality, and throughput.
- Apply GM’s Global Manufacturing System to drive measurable continuous improvement and coach the team on lean principles.
- Lead problem-solving, plan line balances for changes, and support production trials to validate solutions.
- Collaborate across levels—from operators to leadership—to build alignment and momentum.
What you bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or equivalent) plus 2+ years in Industrial Engineering.
- Hands-on manufacturing experience with a proven continuous improvement track record.
- Experience documenting standardized work and implementing Lean concepts.
- Fluency in time study and motion analysis.
- Working knowledge of CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Line Designer).
- Adaptable communication style; strong collaboration skills.
- Self-starter with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Willingness to work any shift, overtime, and weekends.
Bonus points
- Background in human factors/ergonomics.
- Project and time management experience.
- Experience in a union/bargaining unit environment.
Compensation and rewards
- Base pay range: $80,700.00 – $109,400.00 (actual offer depends on role-related factors).
