A day in the life

You start your morning in a company-provided vehicle, route set for customer sites across the Virginia Beach/Fredericksburg area. Your toolkit includes precision measuring instruments, a handheld device (smartphone/tablet), and the expertise to install, commission, troubleshoot, and repair rotary screw, reciprocating, Centac, and ECC air compressors—plus the dryers, controls, and components that complete a compressed air system. You coordinate with a Service Coordinator for parts and materials, brief customers on findings, and mentor apprentices or fellow technicians as needed.

What you will do

  • Install, pre-commission, start up, and repair compressed air systems with hands-on ownership—ensuring equipment operates to customer requirements with limited guidance from a Master Technician.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance across all makes and models; use precision diagnostic tools to identify and resolve issues.
  • Read and apply operations and parts manuals; interpret wiring schematics and diagrams to drive accurate fixes.
  • Collaborate with the Service Coordinator to secure parts, materials, and supplies for timely repairs and installations.
  • Communicate clearly—verbally and in writing—with customers and teammates; document work thoroughly.
  • Assist and train apprentices and Field Service Technicians.
  • Educate customers on Ingersoll Rand offerings such as Preventive Maintenance, Diagnostics, Audits, and Leak Detection.

  • Valid driver’s license held for at least 12 months; clean record with no major or frequent violations (including DUI within the last 5 years, Hit & Run, License Suspension, Reckless/Careless Driving, or multiple smaller infractions or preventable collisions within the last 3 years).
  • On-call rotation after your first 90 days: one week of 24/7 availability as often as every 4 weeks or longer, determined by the hiring manager.
  • Comfort with a highly physical role: frequent use of hands and fingers; walking, stooping, kneeling; ability to lift/move weights per safety policy.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
