Materials Buyer — Heavy Equipment Supply Chain

What if your next negotiation helped lift 100+ tons—safely and on time?

At Uesco Industries, a fourth-generation, family-owned manufacturer founded in 1921, we design and build custom overhead traveling cranes and runway systems. Our American-made solutions support distributors and major industrial operations nationwide. We’re searching for a Materials Buyer who loves turning complex requirements into on-time deliveries and enduring supplier partnerships.

Before we go further: location trajectory

We operate in person from Alsip, IL today. Our headquarters and manufacturing operations are planned to relocate to Hammond, IN in 2028. We’re hiring for the long term—candidates should be prepared to commute to the Hammond facility as the transition begins (starting in 2027).

Your mission

Be the linchpin between requisitions and results. Use data, relationships, and hustle to keep production humming, quality uncompromised, and costs in check.

How you’ll make impact

  • Translate needs into buys: analyze requisitions from managers and sales; select best-fit vendors for raw materials, crane components, and shop supplies.
  • Win on value: cultivate suppliers and negotiate pricing/terms that save money while protecting quality and safety standards.
  • Keep schedules sacred: track POs, manage inbound/outbound logistics, and clear back-orders fast so production never stalls.
  • Balance the stock: monitor inventory to prevent both shortages and excess.
  • Orchestrate alignment: connect production, shipping/receiving, and finance so deliveries, inventory, and billing match up.

What sets you up for success

  • Computer fluency and strong typing skills (speed and accuracy); ease navigating multiple screens, ERP/purchasing systems, and Microsoft Excel/Outlook/Word.
  • Background in purchasing or procurement within a manufacturing/industrial setting.
  • Comfort with industrial components—motors, steel, electrical parts; knowledge of overhead cranes is a strong plus.
  • Dependable commute to Alsip now and Hammond as we transition (beginning 2027).
  • Professional DNA: integrity-first negotiator; organized, meticulous, and autonomous.
